WHAT YOU VISIT
Sundays River Ferry Cruise
Experience South Africa's epic wonder known as the Alexandria Coastal Dune Field on a cruise down the Sundays River. After boarding a coach at the pier, you'll travel to the peaceful village of Cannonville located on the banks of the lower reaches of the Sundays Estuary where the double-decker pontoon boat awaits. Settle in the lower deck, which offers comfortable seating or the upper deck, which provides panoramic views. As the boat glides past the verdant green banks, the towering golden dunes of the Alexandria Coastal Dune Field will slowly come into view. Stretching out 142-square-kilometers (54 miles) it's acclaimed as the largest and least degraded active coastal dune field in the Southern Hemisphere with dunes. Weather permitting, you'll have an opportunity to walk on this amazing dune field.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
You can't help but focus your lens on the giant sand dunes that can reach heights of up to 140 meters (460 feet). The dunes are also a haven for animals such as the endemic dune gerbil, bush pig, vervet monkeys, and various bird species including peregrine falcons and the endangered damara tern.
