WHAT YOU VISIT
Hiking Reunion
Reunion Island's geological history goes back three million years and through the eons repeated plumes of hot magma rose from deep within the ocean floor sculpting a landscape that could be considered an awe-inspiring work of art. Nowhere is this feat of nature more beautifully realized than Cirque of Mafate, a massive, collapsed volcano. Sitting at over 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) above sea level, hiking to the caldera with its towering, jag-ged mountain walls and awe-inspiring views will leave a powerful impression. Once you arrive at the base of Cirque of Mafate, you'll meet your specialized guide. As he leads you up narrow mountain trails you'll learn this UNESCO Site is acclaimed for its rare highland plants, subtropical forests, and native wildlife found nowhere else on earth.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
The rugged beauty of Mother Nature is on display in the form of steep mountains, high vertical cliffs and ten peaks soaring 2,000 meters (6,560) feet.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
After leaving the pier you'll journey through the busy streets of Pointe des Galets headed to the western coast in direction of Saint Paul, where French settlers first landed in 1642. Then you'll travel through an idyllic landscape of tiny towns and rolling fields of sugarcane.
