Oslo is an easy-going city where history meets modernity, it boasts world-class museums, a lively nightlife and plenty of outdoor activities and many locals are keen hikers, skiers or sailors.
See Oslo from the top deck of an open top bus and enjoy 360-degree views of the city. Hop on and off the bus tour at your leisure at conveniently located stops around the city.
A stop at the Ibsen Museum, a museum dedicated to the work of 19th-century Norwegian playwright, theatre director and poet, Henrik Ibsen, is full of exhibits and it's also partly housed in Ibsen's apartment where he lived during his later life until he died in 1906.
Hop off at the Royal Palace, once home to Norwegian & Swedish King Charles III and now the residence of the present Norwegian monarch. Wander through the beautiful, green parkland surrounding the palace or watch the changing of the guard before hopping back aboard the bus and heading to Akershus Castle. This medieval castle was first completed in the 1300's and since re-furbished into a fortress in the 1500's, is now a renaissance castle housing banqueting suites and the Royal Mausoleum. There's also some great views to be had from the top of the castle along with the chance to meander your way through the grounds and gardens.
There are many museums to visit in Oslo but one that is also popular with many is the Fram & Norwegian Maritime Museum. With exhibits on coast culture and maritime history from boat models, marine archaeology and ship building exhibits to fishing and marine paintings, there's plenty to see and do at this place of interest.
Spot the many different sculptures at the Vigeland Sculpture Park, Opera lovers can head to the Oslo Opera House and also take in the views from its sloping roof whilst architecture fans can admire the trendy Aker Brygge area with its shopping center that was once a shipyard.
There's so much to see and do in Oslo, you'll be spoilt for choice.
