Kasuisai is one of the largest temples in the Tokai district, belonging to the Soto sect. Established in 1394 by Zen Master Jochu Tengin, the 7th generation disciple of Dogen. The 11th abbot, Tozen, rescued Tokugawa Ieyasu when he was a boy (then named Takechiyo) and was being held hostage by the Imagawa family. Ieyasu rebuilt the temple and changed its name to Kasuisai Temple when he became the lord of Hamamatsu Castle. Kakegawa Castle was first built by Asahina Yasuhiro in 1513, acting on the orders of Imagawa Yoshitada. Later the castle fell in to the hands of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi who once ruled whole Japan prefectures. After the battle of Sekigahara in 1600 the Toyotomi clan was defeated and Kakegawa Castle reverted to the control of Tokugawa Ieyasu, one of the most influential men in Japanese history, and the founder of Edo period, which was to control Japan until 1868. After learning the castle and history, conclude with Road of Station "Kakegawa". Here is mainly for tourists and all kinds of souvenirs have been collected.
