What you will visit:
St. Ann's Bay
Tucked between the brilliant green mountains and the royal blue Caribbean Sea, St. Ann's Bay is a quaint town that boasts a UNESCO Heritage Site and national landmark, charming architecture, and Bob Marley as its native son. Known as one of the oldest areas in Jamaica, it is believed to be a 2,000-year-old Arawak Indian settlement. Christopher Columbus would later visit these shores in 1494, and there is a town statue commemorating the explorer.
Seville Heritage Park
This UNESCO Heritage Site and national landmark stretches out over 300 acres, and it's here that Jamaica's first inhabitants established their largest town. A guided tour of the artifacts inside the Seville Museum helps guest to visualize the lives of these first Jamaicans. The lovely grounds outside this beautiful property feature the ruins of a Spanish church and the overseer's house, as well as the remnants of a water wheel used to operate the nearby sugar mill.
What you will see along the way:
Traveling through St. Ann's Bay is an opportunity to see the historic courthouse and ancient fort. There is a statue outside the Parish Library, in honor of Marcus Garvey, Jamaica's first national hero, who was born in St. Ann's. Another key sight is Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The original construction of this church began in 1534, but only the walls were built. It wasn't until 1943 that the beautiful structure was completed, and today, the stone and timber building is recognized as a Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
