A day spent on sun-kissed Mykonos surpasses all expectations. Your full-day tour explores the cosmopolitan and chic island with a quintessential timelessness that evokes the history, culture and mythical charms of a classic Greek Isle.
Board your motorcoach for a scenic drive through the rocky countryside en route to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island's southwest coast, Agios Ioannis, home to soft sand, the crystalline blue waters of the Aegean Sea and panoramic views of the island of Delos – the historic archaeological site and reputed birthplace of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis. Continue the fun in the sun with a stop at Kalafatis Beach, one of the area's earliest strips of golden sand where the deep blue Aegean Sea and favorable breezes make it an attractive spot for windsurfers. Take a stroll in the sunshine and, if you wish, purchase some light refreshments from the local vendors that line the shore.
Resume your drive to the charming village of Ano Mera at the center of the island, home to the lovely Panagia Tourliani Monastery.
With its intricate folk carvings and marble bell tower, Panagia Tourliani Monastery, originally built in 1542, is an awe-inspiring architectural structure dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its impressive architecture, whitewashed exterior and colored dome have long charmed visitors from around the world. A beautiful marble fountain sits in front of the church, and its interior houses an striking wooden iconostasis (altar screen), made in 1775 by Florentine artists. Note the hanging incense holders that line the wall; they're decorated with silver dragons holding red eggs in their mouths, evidence of Eastern influences. The monastery is also home to an ecclesiastical museum that showcases embroidery, woodcarvings, and holy icons as well as the monastery's first bells.
Back in Mykonos, your day continues with an exclusive treat for Princess Cruise passengers – a visit to Lena's House, furnished with beautiful antiques. You're invited inside for a look at the period re-creation of a household during the 19th century.
Pause for lunch at a well-known traditional Mykonian restaurant where you'll dine on local delicacies accompanied by wine.
Satiated, begin to explore the town of Mykonos on a guided walking tour. Mykonos is a picturesque town with a labyrinth-like maze of tiny streets, white houses and red-roofed churches. See the area's most treasured landmarks, photograph the iconic windmills and peer into the stylish shops and pretty cafes. See the petite enclave known as "Little Venice" and the show-stopping Paraportiani Church, a true Byzantine jewel and the island's most famous church. As you stroll, you'll note that the island's strict building regulations have kept its Cycladic architectural style intact, making this one of the most beautiful and authentic of all the towns on the Aegean.
At the completion of your tour, you are welcome to continue sightseeing on your own. As you walk through the streets, don't be surprised if Petros the Pelican, the island's mascot, pops out to say hello.
