Bergtatt Caves
Journey deep within a limestone mine to spectacular marble caves, a result of mining operations since 1938. Travel by motorcoach deep within Bergtatt Mountain, then board a barge that sails through dark, mysterious tunnels on deep crystalline waters. Through the darkness, watch for the glimmer of lights that reveal themselves to be sparking chandeliers. Fill your camera with the splendor, then head back to watch a short film about the mining operation and geography of the area.
What you will see along the way:
The Bergtatt Caves are a scenic, 40-minute drive from Molde. As you head out of town, enjoy views of the varied landscapes, from deep water fjords to snowy-peaked mountains, tiny islets and archipelagos.

Special Notes
Not suitable for guests who suffer from claustrophobia or a fear of the dark. You will be underground for up to 1½ hours. There is walking of approximately 25 yards over concrete and gravel; the terrain can be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy, non-skid walking shoes. The barge is boarded via a flat ramp. Dress warmly--the temperature in the cave is a constant 43 degrees Fahrenheit. The short film is shown in a heated area (68 degrees F). The boat ride lasts approximately 15 minutes; life jackets are available. The time underground is split between free time, watching the short film and taking the barge ride.
