WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
Miyakojima Marine Park
Offering experiences both above and below the water, this fascinating marine observatory is the perfect place to enjoy the delights of the seas off Miyako Island. Twenty-four floor-to-ceiling acrylic panels offer a spectacular view into the undersea world where colorful fish and octopuses play. There are designated fish feeding times and a play area for children as well as a sandy beach. A charming restaurant with windows to the water is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the view.

Yuki Shio Saltworks
Yuki shio Salt is a delicacy native to this region. It is known for its fine, powder-like form and extremely high mineral content, which resulted in its being certified by Guinness World Records as the richest mineral salt in the world. The museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the production process, and the salt can be purchased along with other products made from this rare delight, including cookies and soft-serve ice cream, many of which can be found nowhere else in the world.

Shimajiri Mangrove area
Mangroves, often called the "forests of the sea," are communities of evergreen trees that grow in brackish waters along the shores. A natural monument, they are an integral part of Miyako Island's ecosystem, and several varieties can be observed while strolling a pedestrian walkway that cuts through the forest.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE ALONG THE WAY:
Sugarcane fronds wave gently in the breeze of the lush subtropical Miyako Island. Here, limestone rocks meet powder-soft white-sand beaches on the chain of islands that for good reason are considered some of the loveliest places in Japan.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY:
Ikema Bridge
The 1,425-meter (4,700-foot) Ikema Bridge connects Miyako and Ikema Island and spans an incredible stretch of jade-green water.
