WHAT YOU VISIT
Uchiko
Located about 24 miles southwest of Matsuyama, Uchiko was once a prosperous center of wax and paper production in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At that time, wealthy local merchants built new homes or added to their own, resulting in beautiful streets lined with large and stylish houses. Restored and preserved, this group of 90 buildings have remained intact, inhabited, and mostly unchanged.
Ozu
Ozu is located between the Seto Inland Sea to the north and the Shikoku Mountains to the south. The pristine Hiji River, which flows through the center of Ozu and is said to be the origin of its name, meanders through the town like a bent elbow, bestowing blessings of nature, historical culture, and specialty products. The remnants of its prosperous past as a castle town under Ozu Castle during the Edo period still live on along the banks of the Hiji River.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Uchiko and Ozu are rich in historical buildings, offering plenty of photo opportunities. On the day of the tour, English tourist maps will be distributed, allowing customers to take their desired photos on their own. However, please note that some facilities, such as the Uchiko-za, are under construction.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
As you make your way through the city streets from Matsuyama to Uchiko, the landscape changes to a world of mountains, forests, and the Hiji River as you approach the Garyu Sanso Villa in Ozu.
