WHAT YOU VISIT
Old Panier District on Foot & Free Time
After meeting your guide on the pier and a shuttle bus transfer, you'll disembark near the Vieux-Port (Old Port) and begin your walking tour through the small, compact village settled by Greeks in 600 BC. By the Middle Ages, Le Panier was prosperous and powerful as evidenced by its many medieval buildings. With camera in hand, you'll have views of stunning Notre Dame de la Garde, whose founding dates back to the 13th century. Just minutes away is La Major Cathedral, a stunning blend of Romanesque and Byzantine styles with intricate mosaics and breathtaking Mediterranean views. For panoramic city views, you'll walk to Mucem Museum, devoted to European and Mediterranean civilizations, and the 400-year-old Fort Saint-Jean. Then, you'll have time to explore on your own and return by shuttle.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Many of the buildings, patinaed by age, feature wrought iron balconies adorned with flower pots. One sight not to be missed is the Notre Dame de la Garde bell tower. The city's most recognizable landmark boasts a 41-meter-high (135-foot-high) tower topped by a 12-meter-tall (37-foot-tall) Madonna and Child, made of copper gilded with gold leaf.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Le Panier is also renowned as the arts district and as you walk the quaint, cobblestone streets and winding lanes, you'll no doubt view street art that's fun and funky graffiti to large-scale, detailed murals painted on buildings.
