You'll visit the inviting 14th century circular Bellver Castle as part of this enticing half-day Palma sightseeing excursion. Your guided tour bus will make the scenic drive from the pier to hug the coast and then make the climb to a promontory called Puig de Sa Mesaquida. Here you'll find a graceful castle with a unique round tower, a pleasant park, an informative museum and panoramic views--the perfect way to start off your day in Palma.

Bellver Castle was conceived for Spanish royalty but only King Sanç (in 1314) and Aragón's King Juan (in 1395) were ever in residence. It served as a refuge for the nobles and merchantmen who were escaping from a revolt in 1521, but in the 16th century, the battlements were removed, the south tower was renovated, a moat was constructed and it was turned into a political prison during the War of the Spanish Succession. Happier days have returned and castle visitors can enjoy Palma's Municipal Museum and other castle attractions like the San Marcos Chapel, Sala de Jovellanos, Throne Room, Kitchen and the Despuig Collection of Classical Sculpture. You can even climb to the roof and check out prisoner graffiti.

The Cathedral of La Seu is Mallorca´s most emblematic building. It stands in the historic old quarter of Palma. The site of a former mosque, this Catholic cathedral became the scene of Mallorcan coronations - thus the impressive architectural design and imposing height. Completed in 1601, La Seu has undergone many reforms, the last of which was directed between 1904 and 1914 by the world-famous architect Antoni Gaudí. Four large towers, numerous sculptures, dramatic stained-glass windows, lavishly decorated baroque altarpieces and chapels, mythical gargoyles and a bell tower with nine huge bells add to the overall effect. And with space for 18,000 people and the tombs of several Spanish kings, you can't help but be struck with awe.

Enjoy some time at leisure in the city center with visit to a Pearls shop.

Completing your day tour with the return drive to Palma, your guide will point out some of the city sights and provide interesting narration on local history, culture and contemporary life. Mallorca has long been held to be one of the most alluring of Spain's Balearic Islands and your camera's memory card is sure to be filled with enough vivid images to keep you enthralled for years to come.
