Travel through the seaside city of Palma de Mallorca and into the majestic Serra de Tramontana mountains, where you'll find the charming town of Sóller, best known for its thriving orange groves. Here, a National Geographic-trained guide will share background on the city and how it came to be known as the Valley of Oranges.

During your fist stop at the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, a certified educator will lead you through the exhibits, which contain the largest collection of floral specimens across the Spanish archipelago. Stop in the museum's private audio-visual room, where you'll review photos illustrating the history of the orange groves and their impact on Sóller's local businesses. You'll also learn more about the museum's work to conserve the Balearic Islands' plant species, unique ecosystems and natural habitats.

Continue outside to the lush grounds of the Sóller Botanical Gardens, where you'll enjoy exclusive access to the vegetable garden and a sprawling orangery. Amid fragrant orange trees, you'll study the botanical properties of different citrus varieties and-season permitting-harvest ripe fruit fresh from the grove. Wander back through vibrant gardens to the museum to observe a cooking demonstration, where, once finished, you'll sample a simple citrus dessert.

Afterwards, drive through verdant countryside to Sa Fàbrica de Gelats, an ice cream parlor in Sóller featured in National Geographic España as one of the best spots for orange-flavored gelato. Enjoy a sweet scoop of tangy ice cream surrounded by Sóller's picturesque streets and distant mountain views before making your way back to the port.
