WHAT YOU VISIT
Madeira Sidecar Adventure
Once you don your safety helmet and sit inside the motorbike's sidecar, your driver/guide will whisk you through the newest part of Funchal and on to the traditional fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. Dating back to the 15th century, it's an ideal destination to learn about island history, locals' way of life, delicious foods and drinks and, of course, a chance to marvel at its beautiful landscape. From here, you'll continue past vineyards, terraced fields, pinewoods and eucalyptus groves to Cabo Girão, one of Europe's highest sea cliffs with a sheer drop of over 45 meters (1,500) feet from the top to the waves below. At the top of the cliffs is the Skywalk, a glass platform that is suspended 580 meters (1,902 feet) above sea level.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
The Skywalk at Cabo Girão offers dramatic views of the Madeira coastline, Funchal, Câmara de Lobos and the Desert Islands off in the distance.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Once the tumultuous scene of earth shattering volcanic eruptions, it may be hard to believe that Madeira is the top quarter of the entire volcanic system. Witness its majesty while riding in a sidecar that travels along Madeira's southwest coast.
