Funchal by Tukxi
Get to know Madeira's capital city in a tukxi, a three-wheeled motorized rickshaw. Inspired by the iconic Ape Calessino scooter, it's a unique way to learn the city's rich history and explore its most popular landmarks. Your driver/guide will travel along the harbor, which has views of the sea on one side and clusters of houses on green mountains on the other. Arriving in the Zona Velha (Old Town), you'll putt-putt through narrow cobbled streets, lined with beautifully restored houses and quaint local restaurants. In the heart of the city sits Praça do Municipio, the awe inspiring square that boasts the historic City Hall; built in 1758, it typifies the 18th century architectural treasures found around the island. And after your unusual sightseeing experience, there'll be plenty of time to explore more of the sights and sounds of Funchal independently.

Have your camera ready as you stop to capture views from the stunning cliff tops at Socorro Viewpoint and Santa Caterina Park, which provides exceptional views over Funchal and the bay. As you zip through Praça do Municipio, you'll notice that the entire square is covered with traditional Portuguese black and white stones and look out for colorful local ladies dressed in traditional costume, selling the famous bird of paradise, the true symbol of the island.

The volcanic origins of Madeira can still be seen-the amphitheater that surrounds Funchal was once a caldera-and its mountainous peaks reach over 1,859 meters high (28,100 feet)!

The tour is sold by tukxi (not per person), so only one person in the party needs to order the tukxi. The price shown is the cost for the tukxi. Tukxi's can accommodate up to 2 adults per vehicle. This tour is not self-driven. The minimum age to participate is 3 years. At viewpoints, paths are cobbled, including steps. The Tukxi cannot accommodate mobility devices onboard; not suitable for guests confined to wheelchairs. In the interests of guests safety, the route can be changed or cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or roadworks. Visibility from all scenic outlooks is dependent upon the weather and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
