Easy Funchal: Around the Island

Your excursion begins at the pier where you'll board your motorcoach and travel through Funchal to the island's southeast coast. Enjoy photo stops at each of the following sights:
At Machico, this once sleepy fishing village is now a lively holiday resort. Legend claims the first settlers on the island landed here in the 15th century.
Continue past Machico en route to Porto da Cruz where you can take in the dramatic views of the sea and the island's mountain interior and the Eagle's Eye, this massive rock formation towering some 1,800 feet above. Next, head inland passing Faial to Ribeiro Frio, Madeira's trout hatchery, boasting lovely manicured grounds.
Your route climbs through lush woodlands to Poiso Pass. The pass rises 4,308 feet above sea level and offers views of the island's highest peaks, Pico Ruivo and Pico do Arieiro. Then you'll descend to Terreiro da Luta, once the terminus of the old funicular railway. Finally, drive through the charming village of Monte en route to Funchal where you'll be taken back to your ship

Comfortable walking shoes and warm cardigan / jacket is recommended, as Madeira has a micro climate.
