Ranked #11 in National Geographic Traveler's "World's Best 111 Island Destinations," Vanuatu offers an endless supply of freedom and relaxation to go along with the sun's golden rays and tranquil sea. Now that you've discovered this unhurried corner of the world, what do you?

The tropical threesome of sand, swimming and sunbathing is within easy reach and during this three-and-a-half-hour excursion you'll visit the jaw-dropping Blue Hole and the enchanting retreat of Velit Bay where you'll get to play explorer (or castaway).

Remember to bring towels, a hat, reef shoes, a swimsuit under your clothes, plenty of sunscreen and bottled water. If you're planning to snorkel, don't forget the fins, mask and flippers and a camera to record all the fun and exciting activities. (Refreshments are available for purchase with Australian currency).

After boarding your non a/c vehicle at the pier sit back and enjoy the pleasant scenic drive. As you travel along the island's northeastern coast you'll have wonderful views of the sparkling ocean, coconut plantations and tranquil villages passing by your window.

Soon, you'll arrive at the world famous Blue Hole, a refreshing oasis in the heart of the jungle. Carved by a natural spring that seeps through the earth, this underwater sinkhole features circular, steep-walled depressions and contains freshwater and saltwater.

But the first thing you may notice when you arrive is the startling iridescent blue color. Approximately 160 feet in circumference, this remarkable hole with mirror-calm waters in jewel-toned shades of aqua and dark blue is the picture-perfect spot for a dip.

Refreshed, you'll shuttle off to Velit Bay. Set in over 1,600 acres of plantation and rainforest, the "horseshoe" bay boasts a landscape of pristine natural beauty. Here, you can indulge in a little free time to yourself.

You can swim or snorkel in the calm, soothing waters and marvel at the fascinating underwater world of tropical fish in colors that could rival a box of crayons. Or you could explore the coral reefs just offshore, stroll the wide expanse of beach, wave to the fishermen pulling up their daily catch or buy a drink adorned with a very long straw, stretch out under a palm tree and watch the clouds roll by.

At the completion of this invigorating visit, you'll return to the pier in Luganville with a camera filled with beautiful memories to share.
