WHAT YOU VISIT
Learn about the history, culture and flavors of historical Puerto Limon on this easy guided tour.

Guided Walk of Historic Town Center: Discover the scenic beauty of the seaside Vargas Park with its palm trees, brightly colored flowers, a gazebo, historical monuments, and views of the ocean. From the shore you'll see Uvita Island, where Christopher Columbus anchored his ships in 1502 during his fourth and final voyage to the New World. He was impressed by the lush coastline, and later Spanish explorers would give the land the name "Costa Rica," meaning Rich Coast.

Art Exhibit: Enjoy the informal art exhibit at Pasaje Cristal where you'll meet local artists outdoors. Artists display paintings, sculptures, and other expressions of affordable art that can be purchased.

Short Beach Visit: Take a drive along the coast to Playa Bonita beach. Take a stroll and meet friendly locals selling souvenirs.

Calypso Music Performance: Visit the air-conditioned Cultural Center to see a live band perform Calypso music with dancers. Feel free to dance to the Caribbean rhythm! Limon is the proud home of this world-famous music.

Cooking Experience: Indulge yourself in a fun and engaging Caribbean cooking experience led by an entertaining chef. Learn how to make – and enjoy eating – "rice and beans," the delicious "patty" and local sweet fruit pastries.

Historic United Fruit Company Building: Your cooking class is located inside a building that once served as the local headquarters for the powerful United Fruit Company, a major force in shaping the economy and development of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast during the early 20th century. Its distinctive architecture and storied past offer a fascinating glimpse into the banana trade era and the lives of those who worked here.

SHOPPING:
Shopping Time: After cooking, simply cross the street to find a large selection of souvenirs at the local market next to the ship.

Your camera will be working overtime as you enjoy a taste of the history, art, cooking, and cuisine of this charming region!
