What you will visit:
Kourion Archaeological Site
One of Cyprus's most remarkable archaeological sites, Kourion is an extensive complex of Greek ruins with panoramic vistas over the Mediterranean Sea and the Akrotiri peninsula. At this UNESCO World Heritage Site, ruins have been found that date back to the Neolithic period, but most are remains from the Hellenistic period, the Romans, and Christian times up to 7 AD. Visitors are able to walk through the primary excavated sites, including the landmark Roman Theater, a semicircular amphitheater that could hold 3,500 spectators and offers views of Episkopi Bay. Other key monuments are the Villa of Eustolios, constructed by a wealthy Christian in the 5th century AD. It has ornate mosaics embedded into the villa's floor, a complex of Roman baths, and an under-floor heating system.
Kolossi Castle
The stately, medieval Kolossi Castle, a former Crusader stronghold, was originally built in the 13th century and was rebuilt in the 15th century. Relive Limassol's past when you explore the well-preserved keep, photograph the coat of arms etched into the castle wall, climb to the roof to take in the same magical views enjoyed by Kolossi's inhabitants over a millennia ago, then walk through the rectangular courtyard and see a well and the ruins of a sugar factory.
Temple of Apollon Hylates (Temple of Apollo)
Apollon Hylates was the god of the woodland and the protector of Kourion. A worship site from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD, the ruins of these fascinating temple grounds reveal fragments of the sanctuary, a monument where dances were held, stairways, columns, and a section of the wall and portico of the temple. Part of the 1st century AD structure has been reconstructed, and a walk around the area also reveals a former stadium, communal baths and a fight arena.
What you will see along the way:
As you drive from Limassol, you will travel through the colorful Phassouri Plantations, where oranges, grapefruits and lemons grow. You will also see vineyards that have produced wines in the area for centuries. The area is renowned for its lush vistas of fertile land.
Shopping:
Limassol Town
On your return to the port, you will drive through Limassol, the second largest city of the island and an international center for business. A stop will be made at Limassol town, where you can stroll to the medieval Castle Square, a European-style piazza with Cypriot charm. Peruse the souvenir shops, stroll sections of the old town, and visit the waterfront promenade.
