Never-ending beaches and endless sunshine are two phrases that probably best characterize the laid-back charms of Puerto del Carmen. But as you explore the town and its environs you'll learn that it's not just a destination but an experience. Be sure to bring along swimwear, towel, comfortable shoes and adequate sun protection. A camera is also a great idea because you won't want to miss any photo opportunities.

Your half-day self-guided tour begins as you board your air-conditioned motorcoach at the pier and make your way to Puerto del Carmen.

With the sparkling waters of the Atlantic outside your window keeping you company, you'll travel southwest to the coastal village of Puerto del Carmen. Once a quiet fishing village, today, it's a bustling center for fun in the sun. As you make your way through the resort, you're surrounded by beautiful gardens of bougainvillea, plumeria, heliconia and other subtropical plants. Then, you'll disembark near Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen's main beach.

From here, you'll have over three hours to discover this charming town on your own. If swimming is at the top of your list then you'll be pleased to know that the city's five miles of beaches all fly the Blue Flag, awarded by the EEC, for cleanliness and lack of contamination. And the surrounding waters are considered to be some of the most tranquil in the Canary Islands.

Between the main beach and the harbor sits Playa Chica, a great place to snorkel and dive. For those seeking more action, there's jet-skiing and banana boat rides. Or you can unwind on the beach under an umbrella and watch the waves roll in and out. (Be aware that sports equipment, beach chairs and umbrellas require an extra fee).

Prefer to shop? Behind the beach is the main thoroughfare with over a mile of busy shops, restaurants and bars. When your exciting day at the beach comes to an end, you'll return to your motorcoach for the relaxing ride back to your ship.
