WHAT YOU VISIT
Ayutthaya
Founded in 1350, the second Siamese capital was once the world's largest city with over one million inhabitants. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, magnificent historical sites are scattered around the modern city.

Bang Pa-In Summer Palace
The 200-year-old with its eclectic blend of Thai, European and Chinese influences, consists of five imposing buildings: a delightful Thai-style pavilion standing in the middle of an artificial lake, a two-story pavilion built in the European style that served as a hall for state ceremonies, a pavilion formerly used as a residence during the high-water season, a Chinese-style pavilion where the court generally resided during the rainy and cool season, and an observatory on a small island commanding wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

Mahathat Temple
Located in front of the Grand Palace, it's believe that the crumbling complex surrounded by lush grassland is one of Ayutthaya's oldest temples, possibly built between 1370 to 1388. Among the headless Buddha statues, faded mural paintings and courtyards is a stone Buddha head entwined in the roots of a tree, one of the most photographed spots in the temple.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet
One of Ayutthaya's most holy temples rests on the ruins of the old Royal Palace and was used only by Ayutthaya kings. At the center of Wat Phra Si Sanphet are three very large bell shaped stupas that were once gilded.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
When you stop for photos at Yaichaimongkol Temple, be sure to focus your lens on the rows of Buddha statues newly sculpted to replace those that have collapsed. The reclining Buddha also makes a great photo subject; its yellow cloth is draped around the huge statue that faces East towards the rising sun.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
After boarding your motorcoach at the pier you'll drive through the tropical countryside, passing tapioca fields, rural towns and villages.
