WHAT YOU VISIT
Lucca
Nestled in the shadow of the Apuan Alps, this ancient Roman village is well-known as a bicycle friendly city with a bike path that travels a three-mile-long loop along 16th century walls. Stretching out 90 feet across and 40 feet high, they offer panoramic views of the city. Once you arrive, your guide will lead you along the walls and meandering maze of streets. Admire extraordinary examples of medieval and Renaissance architecture such as the Lucca Cathedral, commonly referred to as il Duomo. Built in the 14th century, its white-tipped tower dominates the old city center and is part of a complex that includes the 4th century Church of San Giovanni and Santa Reparata. Further on you'll view the Roman oval-shaped Amphitheatre Plaza, built on the foundations of an ancient Roman amphitheater. While the ancient Roman amphitheater no longer exists, cafés and storefronts line the plaza much like they did in Roman times.
