What you will visit:

Honokohau Harbor/ Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park
The gateway to Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park leads you to a world of history and natural beauty. See the ancient Hawaiian fishpond, ingeniously designed as a sluice gate to invite the sea's bounty and a haven for native Hawaiian waterbirds. Stroll along the sandy beach in search of the iconic sea turtles and follow the trail of petroglyphs, ancient carvings that are etched onto horizontal rock surfaces by skilled craftsmen of yore.

Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site
Pu'ukohola Heiau is a testament to Hawaii's rich history. This National Historic Site boasts one of the most extensive restored heiau, or ancient temples, in Hawaii, ensconced within the National Park System. Named "Temple on the Hill of the Whale," this structure was erected between 1790 and 1791, making it one of the final temples constructed before the arrival of Western influences in Hawaii. The red stones used in Pu'ukohola's construction were transported by hand over a remarkable 14-mile distance from Pololu Valley and assembled without the use of mortar.

King Kamehameha Statue
Erected to commemorate one of Hawaii's most beloved heroes, the proud statue of King Kamehameha honors the man who conquered and unified the Hawaiian Islands and established them as a royal kingdom in 1810. Amazingly, this original statue was handcrafted in Florence, Italy, in 1878, but was lost at sea during transportation. It was recovered in the Falkland Islands, lovingly returned to its original form and finally sent to its permanent home on the Big Island.

Hawi Town
Explore the idyllic retreat of Hawi Town, nestled in the northern corner of the island. This town carries a rich history as the former bustling epicenter of North Kohala's sugar industry. Present-day Hawi boasts a collection of art galleries and boutiques in vibrant plantation-style structures. Here, you'll discover an array of offerings from artisanal crafts to fudge, ice cream, and Kona coffee (at own expense).

Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory
Tour this facility and taste the buttery macadamia nuts, 100% Hawaiian grown by local farmers on the Big Island for the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory. Then shop the wide array of products, including chocolate and coffee, for tasty souvenirs to take home.

Lunch:
At the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory, refuel with a picnic lunch. Sample menu includes a turkey sandwich on a homemade brioche bun with fixings, sun-dried tomato aioli and condiments.
