What you will visit:
Soviet Nuclear Weapons Site
The tranquil beauty of the Plokstine forest has been hiding a secret for 60 years. Built during the time when Lithuania was struggling under the oppressive rule of the USSR, this Soviet nuclear weapons site was instrumental in the Cuban Missile Crisis. The warheads that were later aimed at cities throughout Europe were deployed to Cuba from this area in 1962. Decommissioned after the breakup of the Soviet Union, today the network of underground tunnels and silos serves as a symbol of the Soviet Army's dominance over the region.

Zemaitija National Park
The tiny town of Plateliai is perched on the edge of the deep crystal waters of the lake of the same name in the heart of the magnificent Zemaitija National Park. Spread over 200 square kilometers, the park was established in 1991 to preserve and manage the cultural heritage of the area as well as to conduct scientific research and promote recreation. Today the park is home to 189 species of birds, as well as otters, ermines and the graceful lynx, and is a popular spot for nature walks as well as boating and sailing.

What you will see along the way:
A drive through central Klaipeda reveals a glimpse into the history of Lithuania, including the time spent under Soviet rule. Discover the Clock and Watch Museum, the Park of Sculptures, a neo-Gothic post office and Klaipeda University, which is housed in a converted military barracks.

Lunch:
Tuck into an authentic Lithuanian lunch of 'cepelinai,' succulent meat-stuffed potato dumplings served in a traditional pub.
