What you will visit:
Fireside Feast
Set within the lush Tongass National Forest, this immersive open-fire dining experience takes place in a secluded rainforest setting overlooking the Tongass Narrows. A short walk leads you to a hilltop venue surrounded by towering evergreens, where the sights, sounds, and scents of live-fire cooking create a distinctly Alaskan atmosphere. Watch as chefs prepare each course over open flames, with seafood sizzling on grills and meats slow-roasted and carved fresh. Along the way, you'll hear stories about Alaskan life, traditional techniques, and the local ingredients that define the region's cuisine. After dining, take time to enjoy the setting-wander forested paths, relax by the fire, or take in the sweeping coastal views. This experience blends wilderness, culture, and culinary craft in a truly memorable way.
Totem Bight State Park
Established in 1938, this unique 33-acre state park offers a glimpse into the native Tlingit and Haida cultures. Start by walking along a winding trail through a forest of towering hemlock trees. The trail opens up into a clearing filled with colorful totem poles, each telling its own fascinating story. Totem carving is a time-honored craft passed down through generations, and many of the poles here were recreated by Native carvers using traditional hand tools to restore those damaged by time and weather. Continue to see a replica of a 19th-century Raven Clan House that would have held between 30 and 50 people. These structures served as shared homes for multiple families, each led by a house chief of the same lineage. Step inside to learn more about Alaska's rich
Native heritage.
What you will see along the way:
Travel along North Tongass Highway from Ketchikan, where views alternate between dense coastal rainforest and the shoreline of Tongass Narrows. Look out the window at towering spruce and hemlock forests, small harbors, and waterfront homes. Keep an eye out for seabirds or marine life while taking in the classic Southeast Alaska landscape of forest, coastline, and island scenery throughout the drive.
Lunch:
Gather around a crackling fire for a true Alaskan feast where your senses come alive with the aroma of wood smoke and chef-prepared dishes crafted over open flames. Guests enjoy a sumptuous buffet while food is prepared in real time in this outdoor setting. Savor a multi-course meal featuring slow-cooked meats, seasonal sides, and dessert prepared over the fire, all served with rustic charm and warm hospitality. Sample menu may include house-smoked salmon chowder, slow-smoked shredded beef with stout gravy, fire-grilled wild salmon with chive butter, and smoked caribou sausage. One complimentary beer or wine for guests at least 21 years of age (with photo ID), or unlimited soft drinks, accompanies the meal. The secluded hilltop venue surrounded by towering evergreens and overlooks the sparkling Tongass Narrows.
