Board your motor coach and drive to the Higashi Chayamachi, one of the city's four pleasure districts established in 1820 during the late Edo period. The district is home to traditional "tea houses" where rich merchants and artisans held drinking parties and geisha performed as geishas still do today.
Next, your tour itinerary brings you the bustling Omicho Market. Here you can soak up 270 years of history at the largest market in Kanazawa. With over 170 shops and stalls selling almost anything you can imagine, it's no wonder this busy network of covered streets was dubbed the "Kitchen of Kanazawa." It is not unusual for lines to build in front of the most popular restaurants, many of which specialize in rice bowls topped with fresh seafood. And locals and tourists alike come to browse for flowers, clothing, kitchen tools and more.
After lunch, head to Kenroku-en, one of the three celebrated "Great Gardens of Japan". This 25-acre landscape garden was originally developed by the great daimyo of Kanazawa Castle. Kenroku-en boasts one of Japan's oldest fountains, a teahouse dating to 1774, and a pagoda donated to the Maeda clan by the great warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The celebrated Ganko-bashi is a bridge comprising 11 red stones laid out to resemble a formation of flying geese.
Your final destination is Kanazawa's 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Opened in 2004, this cutting edge museum focuses on art created after 1980. Moreover the Museum encourages site-specific art installations. The museum's architecture is as new and groundbreaking as its collection.
Then board your coach for the return to ship.
