Board your air-conditioned motorcoach for the short transfer to a local distillery, a distillery specializing in shochu and sake made from sweet potatoes. Shochu is first fermented and then distilled. Tour the factory for acknowledging how to create and sample traditional shochu.

Continue to Senganen (Iso Garden), designed during the 17th century for Kagoshima's ruling daimyo, Shimazu Mitsuhisa. Shimazu controlled Kagoshima and the Satsuma Peninsula from the 12th century to the Meiji Restoration of 1868. This superb formal garden offers stunning views of Sakurajima and Kagoshima Bay (weather permitting). The grounds include a mansion and the Shoko Shuseikan Museum.
Housed in one of the first Western-style factories ever built in Japan, the museum chronicles over seven centuries of Shimazu clan history. Among the items exhibited are materials and records related to the factories built during the Edo Period to support the modernization of Kagoshima, including models and documents about cannon production, traditional glassware such as Satsuma Kiriko, and other industrial advancements. You'll have a chance to visit the museum before boarding your motorcoach for a relaxing drive back to the pier.
Enjoy a Japanese style lunch in a local restaurant.

Travel by ferry on the approximately 15-minute crossing to Sakurajima, the volcanic island in the harbor. The symbol of Kagoshima, Mt. Sakurajima rises over 3,600 feet above the waters of Kinko Bay. The volcano has erupted many times and is still mildly active today. The Arimura Observatory on Mt. Sakurajima offers sweeping views of the crater and the island's lava fields (weather permitting).

Reboard your motorcoach for the short drive back to your ship.
