Looking for something different and new to do with the family? Give the kids a taste of Istanbul's exciting Grand Bazaar on an exciting half-day treasure hunt that leads you through its maze of 65 winding streets and more than 4,000 shops, restaurants and cafes.
The largest souq in the world, the Grand Bazaar is a symphony of color, activity and lively trade. Its origins can be traced back to the 1400s, when the bazaar was an important center of commerce. Historically, artisans set up their shops in the same area, and you'll notice that the street names reflect the trade, making it easy to find just what you are looking for! There is a wide selection of leather, jewelry, antiques, copperware, souvenirs, and famous handmade Turkish carpets.
Depart from port and enjoy a short scenic drive that will take you to the Grand Bazaar's main entrance. Here, you'll meet your host and be placed in teams of six to 10 guests. You'll be given a bag containing all you need to complete the game. Inside, you'll find a map of the bazaar, an envelope containing Turkish lira, clue cards and some useful phrases in Turkish. Once you understand the rules, your start time will be recorded and you're off!
Your task for the day is to follow the map and the clues to find six specialty shops strategically located within the Grand Bazaar. The clues will lead you to where you need to go, and on each clue it tell you whether or not to "buy" or "find" something specific. If you are instructed to make a purchase, use the money provided but be sure to bargain, as the less money spent at the end of the game means more points!
The treasure hunt is geared to children between the ages of six and 12, but it is great fun for all those who participate. At the end of the game, the winning team will be awarded a surprise!
Enjoy a carpet presentation at the conclusion of your day. Return to the motorcoach and chat about all you have seen on the pleasant ride back to port.
