Junior marine biologists will thrill to a visit to one of the world's largest ocean aquariums, Istanbul Akvaryum, an official member of the well-respected World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Your tour travels to a modern, two-story facility with 64 spectacular tanks displaying more that 15,000 land and sea creatures and over 1,500 species of marine life.
Once inside, you'll be taken on a marvelous adventure that travels a 0.7-mile (1.2 km) geographical route through 16 uniquely themed exhibits, from the Black Sea to the Pacific Ocean, and through rainforests, submarines and even the Panama Canal. The marine life displayed varies from one geographic region to the next, and the tanks replicate as closely as possible the real conditions of the natural habitats.
The kids will thrill to not only the variety of what they see but the touch-screen displays, interactive activities, and specialty lighting that enhances each encounter. Walk through the dramatic Marinescape SeaTube, one of the world's longest underwater viewing tunnels, to the predator tank and the jellyfish discovery zone, where the gelatinous creatures take center stage. Throughout the day, fish-feeding shows entertain, and a 5D movie theater presents naturalist films with the added experience of water, wind and fog. There are several cafeterias when hunger strikes as well as a gift shop to cap off this special day.
On the ride back to port, there will no doubt be animated chatter about all the wonderful things you've experienced on this captivating adventure under the sea.
