WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
The Tokugawa Museum
Established in 1977, The Tokugawa Museum displays a broad selection of objects and writings passed down through the generations of the Mito-Tokugawa Family and offers a detailed glimpse into the lives of Japan's daimyo feudal lords. Peruse almost 30,000 items in this vast collection, many associated with Ieyasu Tokugawa (Japan's first shogun), his son Yorifusa Tokugawa, and their families. Additionally, the museum displays the manuscript of the Great History of Japan (Dai Nihon-shi) and the historical documents used in the creation of the book.

Kairakuen Garden
Designated as one of the "Three Great Gardens" in Japan, Kairakuen is renowned for its more than 3,000 plum trees, which bloom red, white and pink from late February through March. Located in Mito, the capital of Ibaraki Prefecture, Kairakuen was constructed in 1841 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki and was uncharacteristically open to the public to enjoy. He designed the garden to reflect the yin and yang principles, the harmony of both the darkness and lightness of life. Tucked within a stately cedar woods and bamboo groves sits the Kobuntei, a traditional Japanese style building. Climb to the top floor for stellar views of the gardens and Senba Lake.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE ALONG THE WAY:
Ibaraki Prefecture, situated along the Pacific coast offers seaside vistas, and historical shrines surrounded by verdant parklands. Gaze out the window during your motorcoach ride and take in the hustle and bustle of local life set against richly colored landscapes.
