WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
Kairakuen Garden
Designated as one of the "Three Great Gardens" in Japan, Kairakuen is renowned for its more than 3,000 plum trees, which bloom red, white and pink from late February through March. Located in Mito, the capital of Ibaraki Prefecture, Kairakuen was constructed in 1842 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki and was uncharacteristically open to the public to enjoy. He designed the garden to reflect the yin and yang principles, the harmony of both the darkness and lightness of life. Tucked within a stately cedar woods and bamboo groves sits the Kobuntei, a traditional Japanese style building. Climb to the top floor for stellar views of the gardens and Senba Lake.

Hitachi Seaside Park
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Hitachi Seaside Park, a beloved local attraction, features vibrant blooms that change with the seasons, set amidst lush, manicured gardens. At over 150 hectares there is much to visit, including the Pleasure Garden, boasting more than 25 attractions, including a Ferris wheel that offers captivating views, a cycling path, and Miharashi Hill. In April and May, 4.5 million baby-blue Nemophila flowers blossom on the hilltop. A stroll or bike ride is the perfect way to explore these extraordinary grounds.
