WHAT YOU WILL VISIT:
Oarai Marine Tower
This modern structure, erected in 1988, stands 60 meters tall and is covered with mirrors in the motif of sea waves. The tower has a 180-foot (55-meter) high observation deck affording panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean against a backdrop of Mt. Fuji, the Nikko mountains and Mt. Tsukuba. Inside, visitors will find a marine theater and a host of souvenir shops.

Nakaminato Fish Market
The warm and cool current waters of Ibaraki's east coast attract a variety of marine life, and the fruits of the sea are displayed at the lively Nakaminato Fish Market. Over one million visitors are welcomed yearly by local vendors and fishmongers. In addition to rows of stalls displaying the catch of the day, fresh seafood is cooked before your eyes, and sushi restaurants offer fixed menus determined by the color of the plate.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE ALONG THE WAY:
Your scenic route takes you through the Hitachi Seaside Park to the Oarai area, a chance to gaze upon coastal vistas and local sights.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY:
Oarai Isosaki Shrine
This coastal shrine, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is protected by a torii gate, aptly named "Kamiiso-no-Torii," which translates to "gate at the beach of the gods." With waves crashing at its base, it makes for a stunning photograph.
