Easy Hiroshima
Easy Activity
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Your journey begins at the pier where you'll board your motorcoach and drive through the city suburbs to its very heart, en route to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Dedicated to the victims of the first atomic bomb, the park features a museum and powerful monuments.
Upon arrival to the park, you'll see brightly colored paper cranes everywhere. Origami or paper-folding is a traditional Japanese craft, but it has become a symbol of peace. Today, paper cranes are folded as a wish for peace in many countries around the world. This connection between paper cranes and world peace stems from a young girl named Sadako Sasaki, who died of leukemia as a result from the atomic bomb.
You'll stop at the Atomic Bomb Dome. The old Industry Promotion Hall was one of the few buildings near Ground Zero to survive the blast, although its dome was vaporized. Renamed, its gutted walls and skeletal dome structure stand as a mute icon, which you can view from the exterior. It's a powerful symbol of a weapon's destructive force, hopefully, never to be used again.
You'll also stop at Hiroshima Castle for another photo opportunity. Originally built in the late 16th century, it was destroyed by a firestorm following the atomic blast. Rebuilt in 1958, it houses a museum on pre-war Japan, and makes a fabulous photo subject. Click off a couple shots of the historic castle before heading back to the pier where your ship awaits to take you on your next adventure.
