WHAT YOU VISIT
Helsinki Highlights
Get to know the postcard-perfect sights of this enchanting capital city with a brief coach ride to Sibelius Park where you'll disembark and stroll to Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Church in the Rock. And, like its name suggests, the Rock Church is built inside a massive block of natural granite. Back on the coach, you'll continue your tour past City Hall, the President's Palace, the Opera House, the Parliament House and Esplanade Street, famous for its shopping and open-air restaurants.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Sibelius Park is renowned for its striking sculpture of 600 hollow steel pipes welded together in a wave-like pattern. Measuring 8.5 x 10.5 by 6.5 meters (28 × 34 × 21 feet), the pipes create musical tones when wind flows through them, similar to the sound of organ pipes.
TASTING
A stop at Senate Square leads to Restaurant Savotta for a sampling of genuine Finnish cuisine in a thoroughly modern way. Food & Wine describes Savotta as "one of the city's greatest gems." Ingredients are foraged from the country's pristine forests and lakes, and carefully curated from select small suppliers. Your tasting menu includes what is available that day; wine and spirits are available at your own expense.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
As you make your way to the city center, you'll be treated to views of Helsinki's bustling harbor with its large ferries and picturesque islands.
Points of interest
Temppeliaukio (Rock Church)
Senate Square / Cathedral
Market Square
Sibelius Park and Monument
Schedule
Special Notes
Participants will encounter cobblestone surfaces at Senate Square. It is a 400-yard walk uphill from the coach parking to the Rock Church; if a special function is being held here, an inside visit will not be possible. There are gravel pathways at Sibelius Park surrounding the Sibelius Monument. Water is included on the tasting menu; wine and spirits are available at an extra charge (at your own expense). Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
