Enjoy a tour around Karmøy Island, home of medieval Viking kings. Visit Skudeneshavn, a charming town whose well-preserved wooden houses date back to the 1800s, and Mælandgården, a living museum that offers a look into 19th century life. Have a photostop and an optional walk to the Fishermen's Memorial at Ferkingstad.

The island of Karmøy may measure a mere 88 square miles but it holds a treasure trove of historical sights and history that are tied to the sea. Discover this unique relationship during a half-day excursion to two of its most charming storybook villages. So put on your walking shoes and grab your camera for a fascinating adventure that begins as soon as you take your seat on your coach.

From the pier you'll travel across the Karmsund Bridge that links Karmøy to Norway's mainland. Once on the island you'll drive through an otherworldly landscape of verdant forests, heather clad hills and rolling pastureland to the southern tip of Karmøy.

Karmøy is known as an important Viking settlement and the seat of power for King Harald "Fairhair," the first Viking king. So it should come as no surprise that burial mounds, stone monuments and other archaeological finds have been discovered around Ferkingstad.

Fast forward a few centuries to the late 19th century when the town hosted a number of successful herring fisheries.
After you disembark, take photos or take a leisurely stroll down the path to the Fisherman's Memorial, dedicated to the fishermen who have been lost at sea in American waters.

Herring was also very helpful in the success of Skudeneshavn-the next stop on your itinerary. The village looks as it did when herring fishing was at its peak at the end of the 19th century. Feel the decades slip away as you stroll past 130 well-preserved wooden, white homes and seafront wharves snuggled in Skudeneshavn's Old Town's narrow streets during a guided walk.

Enjoy some free time in Skudeneshavn before departing towards St Olav's Church – built by King Håkon Håkonsson around 1250, during the height of the Norwegian realm.
Ready your cameras for the last photo stop before arriving back to your ship - Haraldshaugen is a national monument erected in 1872 in honour of Harald Fairhair, widely recognised as the first King of Norway.
