バスに乗り、函館山、元町地区を遠くに見ながら歴史ある五稜郭公園を訪れます。江戸時代末期に完成した巨大な五角形の要塞は、日本初の西洋式城郭でした。ここでは、五稜郭タワーをエレベーターであがり、星形の要塞を眺めましょう。また、2010年に復原された江戸幕府の役所、箱館奉行所で歴史を学びましょう。現在は公共公園であり、春には美しい桜並木でも知られています。

Board your coach and travel to historic Fort Goryokaku Park, passing Mt. Hakodate and the Motomachi District. Completed in the last years of the Edo period, the massive, pentagonal, moated fortress was Japan's first Western-style citadel. Fort Goryokaku was the scene of a major rebellion during the Meiji Restoration. Forces once loyal to the shogunate seized the fort and held it until their defeat by the Imperial Army. Today the fort is a public park that is prized for its fine cherry trees. After your visit, board your coach for the return trip to the ship.
