Botanical Gardens (Le Domaine de Valombreuse)
Nestling between the mountains and the sea, inland from Petit-Bourg, you'll find the Domaine de Valombreuse. Sheltered by a valley and cooled by the lush vegetation, this extensive floral parkland abounds with exotic flora and hundreds of tropical plants from around the world as well as greenhouses brimming with delicate ferns, blooming orchids and medicinal botanicals. Stroll along manicured walkways, explore the palm grove, look into the trees for 28 different species of birds, and visit a spectacular birdcage with birds representing all the continents and a pool sheltering adorable ducks.

Montebello Rum Distillery
Here on this working estate, you'll walk with your guide through the grounds detailing the distillery's history and production methods. Enjoy a taste of tropical rum punch in the tasting room that also serves as a gift shop where you can by "spirited" souvenirs.

With its soaring peaks, and the active La Soufrière volcano, Basse-Terre is the more spectacular of Guadeloupe's two butterfly islands. Dense rainforest scenery, charming fishing villages, seaside towns and endless stretches of banana and sugarcane plantations stretch out to the golden coast. A scenic drive reveals all its beauty, and the changing light and frequent rainbow sightings heighten the experience.
