What you will visit:
John Glenn Space Capsule
Stop to see the Friendship Capsule, a replica of the spacecraft associated with astronaut John Glenn's historic 1962 mission. Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth before splashing down in the waters off the coast of Grand Turk.
Cockburn Town
For almost 500 years, explorers, merchants, and pirates have long favored Turks and Caicos for its turquoise waters, powder-soft beaches, and abundance of sun. Cockburn Town, also referred to as Grand Turk, is the capital city of the Turks and Caicos Islands and has served as the seat of government for the islands since 1766. Visit the downtown heart core and enjoy free time to browse the small, rustic shops for souvenirs and local crafts, take in views of the ocean, or purchase local snacks. You'll also See the Jags McCartney Memorial Statue as your guide shares the story of Grand Turk's celebrated national hero and his fight for civil rights.
Grand Turk Lighthouse
Travel to the northernmost end of Grand Turk for a scenic stop behind the historic lighthouse, noted for its panoramic coastal views. Rising 60 feet high, the cast-iron lighthouse was built in the United Kingdom and reassembled piece by piece on the island. From its cliff-top setting, you'll capture postcard-views of the surrounding coastline and Atlantic Ocean.
What you will see along the way:
From your double-decker bus, take in Grand Turk's rural scenery, historic sights, and coastal views as you travel across the island. Pass the Governor's House, a historic beachfront residence dating to 1815 and situated on Governor's Beach. Continue through downtown, where the architecture reflects the island's British colonial and Bermudian influences, and enjoy its picturesque setting along Grand Turk's western coastline before traveling north through the island's quieter landscape toward the historic lighthouse at its northernmost tip.
