WHAT YOU VISIT
Tjörn
The quaint island of Tjörn abounds with charming red clapboard farmhouses, sweeping meadows studded with granite boulders, and shimmering lakes. Once you cross the impressive Tjörn Bridge, you'll journey through the island to Klädesholmen, an old fishing village that dates back to the 15th century. Like most of the Swedish islands and coastal communities, herring played an important part in the town's development, and even today, salting houses and canneries dot the tiny harbor. Once you disembark, you'll have a guided tour around this quaint little hamlet of only about 385 people. Back on the coach, you'll visit Skärhamn, the island's main village and one of the bases of the Swedish navy, boasting narrow streets lined with white clapboard houses and some small shops, and during summer, the pretty harbor is full of yachts.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
A stop at the impressive Tjörn Bridge offers fantastic views of the Askerö Fjord and many of the islands that dot the West Coast.
SNACK
Enjoy a snack of herring and a soft drink at a local café in the main town of Skärhamn.
