Located right on the coast, Gothenburg serves as the gateway to the Western Archipelago off the Bohuslän coast. Extending all the way to the Norwegian border, the northern part of the archipelago is dominated by the Öckerö municipality, which consists of ten inhabited islands.
This four-hour tour is perfect for those who desire an abundance of scenery, views and photo opportunities. So remember to bring along a camera to record landscapes that will take your breath away. Sit back and relax for a scenic drive aboard your motorcoach as you travel to the small hamlet of Lilla Varholmen. Here, your coach will drive on to the ferry for the brief journey to Öckerö. With a total area of just ten miles, Öckerö is one of the smallest municipalities in Sweden. As you approach the island, you'll notice its dramatic features: houses perched on towering cliffs above soft, sandy beaches.
Arriving on Öckerö you'll be whisked away on a sightseeing tour of the island. From your seat, you'll have the perfect vantage point to snap photos of the island's magnificent meadows, mountains and moors. Then, you'll travel over the bridge that connects Öckerö and Hönö for a visit to the famed Öckerö Church. Built around 1450 on the site of an earlier wooden church, the building you visit today was restored in the 18th century. Next, is a visit to the charming Folklore Center where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and delicious pastry before returning to your motorcoach. Continuing south, you'll travel through Fotö's enchanting countryside before climbing over another bridge that will take you to the rocky island of Hönö. As you make your way over the sparkling sea, you're sure to marvel at the jaw-dropping sight of the archipelago stretched out just outside your window. After you arrive in Hönö, you'll set out on a guided walk around the village and the harbor, which is dotted with charming white houses adorned with red roofs.
At the conclusion of your walk, you'll begin your return trip back to Gothenburg with another memorable drive through the picturesque islands to the ferry in Lilla Varholmen, which will take you back to the city and the pier after a relaxing day of island hopping.
