Gibraltar Nature Reserve on your own
Strenuous Activity
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
What you will visit:
.You will receive a Nature Reserve pass, which includes entrance to several key sites, such as St. Michael's Cave, The Great Siege Tunnels, Moorish Castle, Skywalk, Apes' Den / Barbary macaques areas and Windsor Suspension Bridge. You can explore all included attractions at your own pace and enjoy viewpoints overlooking Spain, Morocco, and the Strait of Gibraltar.
What you will see along the way:
On a clear day you will see across the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa, the coast of Morocco, the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and Spain to the north.
Shopping:
Enjoy free time to explore Main Street, Gibraltar's principal shopping district. Here, visitors will find a wide array of souvenirs and curio shops as well as fashionable boutiques. One of the subdistricts of Main Street is called Irish Town, named in the 19th century when Gibraltar was divided into different quarters.
Snack:
You may choose to relax in the Irish Town pedestrian area at a pub or café (at your own expense).
Schedule
Special Notes
The free-roaming Barbary apes are wild animals. Keep your distance - the apes have been known to snatch bags or cameras - and they may bite.
Please note that transportation options from within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve are very limited. There are no taxis available to pick up guests from the attractions within the Nature Reserve itself, and app-based taxi services such as Uber are not available in Gibraltar.
Guests visiting the Rock independently should be prepared to walk downhill via the marked pathways and roads leading back towards town. Once you have exited the Nature Reserve and reached the lower areas of Gibraltar, you can then find local taxis or continue on foot back to the port.
