What you will visit:
Andalusian farmhouse
Dating back to 1797, this gracious farmhouse with a wide patio and surrounded by weathered barns, is part of a cork and cattle farm run for generations by the same family. Andalusia produces half of the world´s cork, and this area boasts a special high-quality cork sold to the international wine trade market. The cork oak is native to the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, and it is believed that cork oak has grown for almost 150 million years. In Andalusia, to protect the trees, cork is allowed to be removed only from June 15 to August 15. Visitors will engage in a guided tour with a guide who will demonstrate how the cork bark is harvested from the trees, utilizing a centuries-old method to create the perfect wine-bottle stopper.
What you will see along the way:
Your driving route travels along the Bay of Gibraltar heading north toward the border between Gibraltar and Spain. Along the way, you'll take in dramatic views of the magnificent Rock of Gibraltar. Separating Africa from Europe and linking the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, it rises dramatically from the strait that shares its name.
Photo Opportunity:
En route, you'll have a brief photo stop, allowing you capture the 'Rock' framed by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Shopping:
You may wish to browse for a memento of your tour at the traditional farm shop offering local products such as leather and cork goods, excellent-quality olive oils and sherry, and beautiful handcrafted souvenirs, all locally sourced.
