WHAT YOU VISIT
Genoa's Fortresses: Urban Trekking Adventure
After meeting your local guide at the pier, you'll walk to the funicular station and board the bright-red Zecca-Righi funicular to Righi hill, high above the city. Once you disembark, you'll trek along an old path adjacent to the "New Walls," built in the 17th century to defend the city. While weathered by time, the walls and the fortresses built upon them 200 years later are well preserved. Outside visits to Forte Sperone, Forte Puin and Forte Castellaccio offer panoramic views of rolling hills, oak and ash trees, Genoa and the Ligurian Sea.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
The woods and fields that surround the forts are home to a variety of animal species. Have your camera handy and you may spot an eagle, badger, buzzard or fox.
SNACKS
Relax in the shadow of Forte Castellaccio with focaccia, "canestrelli" (a shortbread-type cookie), espresso or cappuccino, water and fruit juice.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
The Zecca-Righi funicular travels 279 meters (915 feet) through the city past decades-old mansions and lush green gardens and up to Forte Sperone.

Special Notes
There are no inside visits of the Fortress included on this tour. The tour is entirely on foot along uneven terrain, gravel, up hills and downhills.
The tour will not operate in adverse weather conditions. Minimum age to participate is 6 years. Rubber sole gym shoes or trekking boots are recommended (no open shoes, slingback). Bring water, sunblock, and a head cover.
This tour is only suitable to guests in optimal physical conditions. Guests with heart conditions may not participate.
Food intolerances or gluten-free requests must be requested 48 hours in advance.
The order of the sites may vary. The distance covered during the Trek is approximately 9 kms. (5.6 miles).
Should the Zecca-Righi funicular to Righi hill be under maintenance, the tour will operate by one-way transfer via the historic Granarolo rack railway. Therefore, the starting point of the hike will be different. The return transfer to the pier will be operated via minibus.
