Travel the winding roads of the northern coast of Italy, where jagged mountains touch deep turquoise waters and glamour, charm and romance can be found around every bend.

Your half-day tour begins with a walking tour of one of the most beloved destinations on the Riviera – Rapallo.

The resort-like village is punctuated by striking landmarks, such as its large marina and historic 16th-century castle built as a defense against Saracen raids. Connected to the land by a single-span Roman bridge over which, according to the legend, Hannibal crossed during his invasion of Italy, Rapallo maintains a nostalgic air, and its colorfully painted buildings and grid-pattern historic center take you back to a time of tranquility and beauty. It is no wonder that in the early 20th century, the village was a hub of cultural activity. Between 1925 and 1930, Ezra Pound wrote the first 30 of his Cantos here, and both D.H. Lawrence and Hemingway visited the area for inspiration.

Enjoy free time to explore the shopping area on your own.
Reboard the motorcoach and continue along a coastal road to Sestri Levante, a peaceful fishing village overlooking two bays: the Baia del Silenzio, (Bay of Silence) where you can spot the monks from the 17th-century monastery performing their rituals, and the Baia delle Favole (Bay of Fables), named in honor of the fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, who lived in Sestri Levante in 1833.

Your pedestrian tour of this rustic enclave is an opportunity to learn more about a host of landmarks, including the Renaissance Capuchin Monastery overlooking the Bay of Silence that was built between 1683 and 1688. See the 12th-century Romanesque Church of St. Nicholas Island, the remains of the baroque oratory of Santa Caterina, destroyed during World War II, and a collection of small castles. Cypress Castle was the location for Guglielmo Marconi's experiment on radio signal navigation in 1932. The Galleria Rizzi houses a precious collection of paintings from the 15th to the 18th century. Enjoy some Local wine accompanied by authentic 'focaccia' bread at a local establishment.

The remaining time will be spent on your own. Stroll along the beach promenade past colorful boats bobbing in the sparkling waters and note the unusual, gray-colored sand. This area is studded with tiny cafés and shops and is the perfect place to pick up souvenirs and experience the local ambiance.

Return to the motorcoach at the designated time and relax on the ride back to Genoa and the ship.
