Ahh, the towns of Liguria. Named for the Ligurians who ruled the area in the 6th century B.C., the region is considered Italy's answer to the French Riviera and blessed with rolling hills, mild weather, stunning architecture, fascinating history and a scrumptious cuisine. Experience it all with an excursion to three Ligurian villages: Portofino, Santa Margherita and Genoa. Not only will you set out on a walking tour of each renowned village but you'll also have lunch in Genoa's Zeffirino Restaurant with free time to shop, too. What more could you ask for while on vacation?

First, your motorcoach will take you to Rapallo. In Rapallo you will board the motorboat to Portofino, an ancient fishing village of Roman origin. Visit the church of Saint George to find the preserved Saint's relics, then take in the superb panoramic views over the Piazzetta before returning to the harbor for your boat transfer to Santa Margherita Ligure. Here, after the guide introduction of the village, you'll stroll along the seaside promenade and explore the charming shops. At the end of your visit, take the boat transfer back to Rapallo and reboard your vehicle for the return drive to Genoa.

Upon arrival in Genoa, proceed to the Zeffirino restaurant. Family-owned since 1939 with its nondescript decor, candelabras, quaint genre paintings and waiters in dark suits who expertly-arrange each serving at the table, Zeffirino's lives up to its advance hype for providing definitive Mediterranean seafood and its world-famous pesto.
This famous eatery has gained universal recognition. Guests of this upscale Genoese establishment, known as the 'Ambassador of Italian Cuisine', include famous actors such as Sophia Loren, Roger Moore, Vitorio Gassman, Charles Aznavour, the late Frank Sinatra, and many international celebrities. In 1999, to honour his father and the original family restaurant, Gian brought the Zeffirino restaurant to the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino.

During your visit, Zeffirino's chef shows you the secrets to making authentic pesto sauce; a beautifully-light olive oil infused with basil. Here, the pesto is made from the infant leaves of Genovese basil that impart a minty sparkle rather than the rather strident, licorice-like tendencies of 'mature' basil. The pesto demonstration is followed by a delicious Ligurian lunch
After lunch, discover Genoa's lively inner city on a guided walking tour through its cultural and historic highlights, before enjoying free time to browse the fashionable boutiques and cafés.
