WHAT YOU VISIT
BEC Experience Center
Located in the heart of Casco Antiguo, your senses will be immersed in the iconic flavors of the nation. Sip coffee from the village of Boquete, renowned for the beans that grow in mineral-rich volcanic soil. Treat your sweet tooth to fine Panamanian chocolates and learn about the national beer.
Miraflores Locks Observation Center
Take a seat in the IMAX Theater for a viewing of "A Land Divided A World United," a 3D documentary that explores the rich history, vast scope, and mechanical operations of the Panama Canal. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the film tells the fascinating story from the days of the conquistadores to the 19th century French canal-digging debacle to the American engineering achievement that revolutionized shipping. You'll also have the opportunity for close-up views of passing ships and functioning of the locks from the center's top floor.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Completed in 1913 as part of the original Panama Canal, the Miraflores Locks are the tallest of the three due to the extreme tidal variation that takes place in the Pacific Ocean. From the minute the vessels enter the locks, it takes approximately 10 minutes for the process to be completed. The water enters and leaves the locks by means of gravity only, as there are no pumps or other man made devices that assist in this process. From the overhead Observation Center, you'll have a bird's eye view of vessels in the chambers in transit.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Casco Antiguo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with cobblestone streets lined with colorful Art Deco facades and studded with bohemian cafes, historic landmarks, and graceful plazas.
