WHAT YOU VISIT
Panoramic Tour of Edinburgh & Royal Mile
Edinburgh's amazingly preserved medieval Old Town and its lovely 18th century New Town are recognized as exceptional architectural wonders unrivaled in Europe. Behold their beauty on a guided coach tour designed with little or no walking involved. Once in the heart of the city, you'll journey through Old Town, a network of narrow alleyways and cobbled streets filled with medieval structures. As you make your way down Royal Mile, you can't miss Edinburgh Castle perched atop a volcanic rock looming over the city. Further on, you'll pass St. Giles Cathedral and Holyrood Park. Back on the coach, you'll continue on to New Town, home to elegant Georgian buildings and Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping district.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Catch a glimpse of the splendid St. Giles Cathedral with its magnificent stained glass windows designed in both contemporary and traditional styles. Built during the Gothic-period, the cathedral's most striking design feature is its crowning spires. Drive around Holyrood Park (subject to road closures), a green oasis of lakes and ponds, and then continue to Arthur's Seat for vistas of the city and the Firth of Forth. This photographic vantage point offers superb views of the city and Edinburgh castle.
SHOPPING
At the end of the tour, you'll return to Royal Mile, Edinburgh's oldest and most famous street, to enjoy free time to stroll and shop. Browse for whisky, kilts, Celtic silver jewelry and Edinburgh Crystal. Or stop and purchase one of the country's most popular desserts. The black bun is a very rich fruitcake made with raisins, currants, finely-chopped peel, chopped almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon and ginger.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
The Royal Mile connects Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of Holyrood, the official residence of King Charles III's. This one-mile stretch takes you past an abundance of monuments, landmarks and statues with legendary distinction, such as Canongate, Lawnmarket, the statues of King Charles II and Sir Walter Scott and the stately Parliament Building.
