Board your motorcoach for a scenic drive to enchanting Edinburgh. Alive with culture and history, the capital of Scotland is a thriving UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you tour the streets, marvel at the juxtaposition of medieval architecture and contemporary buildings. The lively culture and classic beauty of this city is on display around every corner.

Your knowledgeable guide takes you through the New Town area, where elegant Georgian buildings and contemporary design abounds. Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping district, bustles with activity. It is here that you will find exceptional shopping, boutiques and cafés.

In contrast, you'll visit Old Town, where a plethora of historic sites and monuments line the famed Royal Mile, Edinburgh's oldest and most historical street. A stroll or drive down this corridor reveals one ancient monument after the next. See such sights as the Parliament Building, Canongate and Lawnmarket and the statues of King Charles II and Sir Walter Scott. Following this world-famous route takes you from the magnificent Holyrood Palace, which was the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen whilst in Scotland, all the way to Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city on a rocky, extinct volcano.

When you reach the castle, there will be an uphill walk from the coach park to the castle entrance, over cobbled surfaces which are uneven in places. Enter the superb fortress complex on Crown Square and allow your guide to orient you to all that can be seen on the grounds. You will explore the interior rooms and the grounds independently.

Key points of interest include the peaceful St. Margaret's Chapel, a glorious example of Romanesque architecture and one of the oldest structures in Edinburgh and the Great Hall of James IV. This primary room was used for state assemblies and ceremonial gatherings and is lavishly ornate. Of particular note are the intricately carved stoned corbels, some of the oldest Renaissance decorations in all of the British Isles.

No visit to the castle would be complete without seeing the spectacular Crown Jewels, the ancient symbol of sovereignty. On display in the same room for over two centuries, viewing the crown, scepter and sword is an awesome experience.

Following your visit to Edinburgh Castle, there will be some independent time for shopping and sightseeing before your return transfer to port.
