Your tour begins as you board your motorcoach for a scenic, narrated drive to Dublin for a brief panoramic drive before continuing to Glendalough, which translates to "the glen of two lakes". En route, you will witness the city's major sights, such as St. Stephen's Green, O'Connell Street, and the city's Georgian District, including Merrion Square. You will take in views of Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university, and drive through County Wicklow, famed as the "Garden of Ireland."
You will encounter the wild heather-covered glens and tranquil landscapes for which the Irish countryside is famous. Soon you will be traveling into the green and uncrowded Wicklow Mountains with their rounded summits, lush valleys and the impressive 6th-century monastic ruins of Glendalough.
Upon arriving at Glendalough, you will marvel at the settlement founded by St. Kevin, a hermit monk who died about 618 AD. The ruins, tucked into a glen with two small lakes, include the remains of early churches, a roofless cathedral and a well-preserved round tower dating back from the 10th century. This most romantic of monastic sites was one of Ireland's greatest pilgrimage centers up to the middle of the 19th century. During your visit, you will enjoy a special audiovisual presentation highlighting Glendalough and the history of monasticism in Ireland.
Your tour concludes with a return drive through the Wicklow Hills.
