WHAT YOU VISIT
Darwin Military Museum
Set in the original concrete bunker the army used to plan the defense of northern Australia during World War II, Darwin's oldest military history museum displays artifacts from all conflicts where Australian troops were deployed. Among the displays are gun turrets, armored vehicles, weapons, uniforms and more. The acclaimed Bombing of Darwin Experience is an audio-visual exhibit that features footage of the bombing of Darwin in 1942, photographs, firsthand accounts, and maps that tell the story of what really happened in Darwin during World War II.

Charles Darwin National Park
Located on Frances Bay on the outskirts of the city, this beautiful wetland area also contains a network of World War II-era concrete bunkers that were built as part of Australia's northern defense line and were used for storage between 1944 and the mid 1980s. Take a stroll along the park's scenic pathways, view the fortifications and visit the visitors center to see the display of WWII memorabilia and learn about the history of the area. You will end up at a scenic lookout platform, where you will have camera-ready views of Darwin Harbor and the surrounding wetlands.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
From the heavy fortifications surrounding the Darwin Military Museum to the tranquil grounds of Charles Darwin National Park, your camera will be working overtime.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
As your coach travels through the Top End capital of Darwin, it's interesting to note that from as early as 1925, military tacticians had identified the area as an ideal defensive position for protecting Darwin Harbor, and it soon became one of the most heavily militarized areas in the Northern Territory. In 1942, Darwin was bombed a total of 64 times.
