This full-day tour of Hue begins with a motorcoach ride to one of the most notable historical places in the city, the Citadel, where the imperial family lived from the early 1800s until the mid-1900s. This walled city, surrounded by a moat and walls that are two kilometres long on each side, contains yet another, inner, walled fortress called the 'Forbidden City', where only the Vietnamese emperor's family was allowed. Spend some time strolling through the Citadel's palace complex, which is undergoing an extensive restoration that is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

Hop back aboard your motorcoach for the short ride to your next stop, the Thien Mu Pagoda, Vietnam's most revered Buddhist shrine. Pass through the impressive entrance gate, defended by two fearsome wooden guardians, complete with real facial hair! The first structure you will see is a striking seven-story octagonal tower, built in 1601. Behind it is a complex of buildings that still is in active use as a Buddhist monastery. After a meditative stroll through the grounds, prepare to board your next mode of transportation: a Dragon Boat!

These colorful boats cruise peacefully down the Perfume River, allowing you to take in the sights along the river banks. This beautiful river, which glides majestically through the city, gets its name from the fresh scents it brings from its passage through aromatic forests upstream of Hue.

Complete your extensive tour with a visit to King Minh Mang's tomb, located on the outskirts of Hue. Begun in 1840 by King Minh Mang, the second ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty, it was not completed until three years later, after his death. Arranged harmoniously into the landscape along the Perfume River, the royal tomb complex - consisting of more than 40 structures - is considered the grandest of all the Nguyen Dynasty tombs. It has an elegant beauty, with colorful ornamentation on the numerous temples, pavilions, statues and gates. A crescent-shaped lake embraces the site of the tomb itself, which has a view of the nearby mountains.

Relax on your return motorcoach ride back to port.
